"The Steading Story by The Hendersons"
We were very fortunate to purchase The Steading in 2007 which turned out to be a defining lifestyle change for us both, we viewed the garden as a project for us both as we have a passion for gardening and over the years we have completely renovated the garden to what it is today. The house itself is filled with quirky details that we love and gives the house a very individual style that appeals to us so much. The picturesque village of Sandford is a lovely, friendly place to live, with an abundance of surrounding walks and other outdoor activities within easy access. We have loved every minute of our time at The Steading but especially when our grandchildren visit as it is their very own outdoor adventure playground that has given them so much fun and enjoyment and what's not to like when you wake in the morning look out at the view and see a deer in the field or whatever wildlife happens to be there.
The Steading is an impressive, architecturally designed barn conversion formed from the original stable block and outbuildings of Tweedside Farm. The property has been cleverly converted, ensuring maximum light and use of space.
The Steading combines a wonderful mix of traditional and contemporary features including period cast radiators throughout. A hardwood floor flows throughout the house and glass-block walls allow light in, whilst ensuring privacy. The reception hall opens to the dining area that in turn opens to the kitchen, utility room and beyond. The drawing room is a characterful room with original stone walls and opaque glass block windows. In addition, there is a truly stunning sunroom with panoramic views of Tinto Hill, the Kype Hills and Loudon hill. The sunroom also leads onto a raised balcony, which is a perfect spot to enjoy your coffee in the mornings.
Stairs lead down to the well-proportioned bedrooms with a shower room and W/C. The master bedroom is located on the first floor and has a dressing room, en-suite bathroom and office space which is open plan, overlooking the entrance hall.
The garden grounds of The Steading are truly outstanding. Extending to approx 3 acres, the grounds have been landscaped and maintained by the current owner to a wonderful standard. In brief, the grounds comprise a gated entrance, two delightful ponds, well-kept lawn, patio, flower beds, shrubs and let's not forgot the amazing wildlife. The adjoining byre could also provide additional accomodation and there is a large 6 car garage/workshop. There is also immense potential for equestrian development.
The Steading enjoys a pleasant rural location outside the hamlet of Sandford, less than two miles from the Strathaven. The nearby town of Strathaven offers a variety of shops, leisure pools, sports centre, supermarkets, tearooms and as well as professional services. Strathaven also offers easy access to the M74 and the M8 that connects the main arterial routes of Central Scotland. Both primary and secondary schooling are available in Strathaven and in addition, there is a small primary school in Sandford itself.
